ABOUT
Obehi Ota specializes in technology transactions and commercial contracts and has experience in a variety of industries, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, blockchain, cybersecurity, financial services, and renewable energy. She is licensed in both California and New York. Obehi received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and obtained a B.S. in Computer Information Systems at age 17 and an M.S. in Information Science at age 19. Her STEM education gave her a facility with technical concepts that has contributed to her effectiveness as a technology transactions attorney.
Obehi began her legal career at a leading Wall Street law firm, where she represented major financial institutions, delving into the intricacies of corporate law. This foundational experience ingrained in her a meticulous precision that she has carried with her throughout her career. Obehi then transitioned to an in-house role at a Fortune 500 technology company, focusing on technology transactions while contributing to knowledge management initiatives aimed at streamlining internal processes within the company. This experience gave her a 360-degree view of the legal and operational needs within a large tech corporation, enhancing her ability to navigate and advise on tech-related legal matters. She subsequently joined a prominent Silicon Valley law firm where she worked with a wide range of clients, from industry giants to budding startups. In this role, she further developed her expertise in software, API, data and content licensing, software as a service (SaaS) models, professional services engagements, and strategic partnerships, as well as privacy law.
The culmination of these experiences led Obehi to establish her own legal consulting practice. In her consulting practice, she has worked with companies, both large and small, to provide personalized legal services that align with their specific needs and objectives. Obehi’s journey through Wall Street, a Fortune 500 corporation, and Silicon Valley has equipped her with a versatile approach to solving legal issues. She uses her unique combination of STEM education, Wall Street rigor, in-house practicality, and Silicon Valley innovativeness to help clients adeptly navigate complex commercial relationships and regulatory landscapes.
